Go for a Spin in a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner "Superbird" with 440 Magnum Engine
http://www.rpmcollection.com RPM Collection's Ted Bernstein and Steve Cage take you for a tour and a quick spin in a rare and pristine 1970 Plymouth Superbird once owned by baseball Hall of Famer "Mr. October" Reggie Jackson.
The Plymouth Road Runner Superbird was designed to beat Ford at NASCAR stock car racing and to lure Richard Petty back to Plymouth. The Superbird featured a aerodynamic nosecone, a massive rear spoiler, and a horn whose sound mimicked the Road Runner cartoon character.
NASCAR required that vehicles to be raced have to be available to the general public and sold in sufficient numbers. That required 500 Superbirds to be sold at select dealers in the United States.
The Superbird's styling proved to be a little extreme for 1970 tastes and many Superbirds sat unsold on the lots of dealerships. Today the Superbird has finally come around to be the valuable collectible that it is. Today a Superbird sells for anywhere from $80,000 to $300,000 USD.
